The economic downturn has certainly had a significant effect on the release of the next generation of video game consoles. Anyone following the history of console releases could easily come to the conclusion that this would be the year that a Playstation 4 or Xbox 720 might be introduced to the market. Now with both Microsoft and Sony jumping aboard the motion control bandwagon, it’s clear that both of these companies are willing to make the current cycle stretch at least seven years, which would push the release of their successors to somewhere around 2012-2013. As for Nintendo, I would be surprised if didn’t hear about a Wii HD releasing sometime in 2011.
